Welcome to Sequoia! We hope that you are just as excited about supporting Sequoia as we are. Many parents make the mistake of thinking that high schools don't need their help as much as their children's elementary and junior high schools did. This couldn't be further from the truth. We help sponsor school-wide events and activities and communicate information to the school community.
Some of the activities include publishing our weekly newsletter, hosting staff appreciation events, organizing Safe & Sober Grad Week events, assisting in proctoring IB/AP exams, and awarding Mini-Grants and Junior Scholarships. While you certainly don't need to become a member of the PTSA in order to be involved, we hope that you consider joining.
To learn more about our organization and our events, join the PTSA, volunteer to help, or browse useful information for parents about Sequoia, please visit .
The PTSA meets on the first Tuesday of every month (except January and June) in the Multi-purpose Room (MPR) at 7 PM. The agenda usually includes an update from the Principal, a presentation on a school-related topic, and information about PTSA events. The meeting schedule is posted on . You do not need to be a member of PTSA to attend, but you need to be a member to vote. The best place to park is the parking lot off of James Street. We look forward to seeing you there!
The grants are awarded to students, teachers, staff members and school groups who need financial support for projects or supplies that benefit the Sequoia community. Applicants are asked to explain how their proposed grant will benefit Sequoia’s students, staff and/or community. Applicants should also relate their proposal to school learning objectives, class curriculum, the goals of their club or program, and/or community needs.
Grants are available up to $750 and are made possible by funding from the Sequoia High School Education Foundation (SHSEF).
Grant funding could be awarded, for example, for: supplies/equipment for classrooms or clubs, publications (books, magazines, newspapers, instructional CDs, videos, software), electronic equipment, construction materials for campus projects, admission fees, and teacher stipends for new programs.
